More cracks in the armor of the Press gallery...

On Tuesday the members of the Parliamentary Press Gallery will meet to discuss the endless spat between Parliament Hill journalists and the Prime Minister over access to the big guy at Hill news conferences. The rest of this post will be en famille: I'm going to abuse my podium to explain why I'll be arguing for unilateral surrender.

I believe we should agree to cover any prime ministerial news conference under whatever conditions the prime minister chooses to dictate. Specifically, I'll argue that Stephen Harper's condition — that we consent to ask questions according to a list made and kept by a junior PMO staffer — is an annoying but trivial obstacle to our job, one we are better to shrug off than to build into a federal case.

Here's why.
