Canadian McCarthyism

Today the parliamentary committee for official languages called Hockey Canada officials to the floor to explain why they made Shane Doan the Team Canada captain. Doan was accused of making a slur against a referree during a game.

As anybody who plays hockey or enjoys a good game of hockey will tell you, pissing and moaning about the ref is part of the bloody game. Not to mention that Shane Doan has been proven to not have said what the referree says that he did. Basically its a pretty damn childish thing in the first place, and to bring it before a parliamentary comittee after the NHL and Hockey Canada have already have resolved the issue brings it to an entirely new strata of idiocy.

This should never have been brought before a committee and it definately should not have been a unanimous decision by the committee to have this McCarthy like prosecution of Mr Shane Doan. In my humble opinion this entire waste of money and committee time is a very good reason for any voter who has a MP in the committee NOT to vote for that person in the next election, regardless of party affiliation.

We deserve and I demand a responsible government. Including all MPs, opposition or in power.

Sometimes, anonymous kicks ass!

A comment on my last post by an anonymous reader that was too good to miss;

CTV's Lisa Lafamme put her foot in her mouth when she was on such a time delay that she thought she had the scoup of the century that War-Crimes were committed by our troops , during a CTV interview over the new evidence to expose the Liberal and NDP lies based on a G&M article , the host cut to Lafamme who was beaming as if the Jury was back and it was a slam-dunk Guilty charge.
You would think the media learned from the Arar case that if a canadian newpaper assumed a citizen was guilty by the lack of evidence to prove innocence and it's hearsay 4th and 5th party translations from Arabic printed it as if it was fact, they would at least try to assume our Soldier were innocent before Lisa convicted them by Taliban testimony.
So low and behold the host is trying to stop Lisa from her CNN style rants by Lampour who would talk on and on and fill the 5 second delay for dead-air , Lisa finally took a break and was told of this new evidence , but she insisted the man across the table told her to her face that the claims were true.
When Lisa ran her special to show the taliban where our troops were and the offensive stragedies
by APC's , it was about 2 weeks later the Goddard was ambushed by a sniper that waited for her head to pop up and Lisa showed for scouting the enemy.
The media is now a bunch of weasels selling their souls for a Award on Journalism and they give a damn who gets murdered from the irresponsible filming that the enemy uses to spot the troop positions, the Taliban know the landscape and can spot most hills and hamlets, the road landmine the murdered 6 soldiers was planned based on video evidence from CTV on how our troop advance and where the tires rid in the road surface.
The moron Dawn Black told Charles Adler she was disgusted at the non-air conditioned tanks our troops used in the hot weather over there, but in the next breath
she rants about Harper excalating the Liberal war with big air-conditions tanks with big scarey guns on them.
The NDP are weasels , and maybe Libby Davies, Bill Siksay, and Svend Robinson could visit the Taliban and use Diplomacy to change these misguided Muslims.
If every goes well we'll see them on Al jezeera getting their heads sawed off with a dull knife
and the remains hacked up and tossed to children as a trophy for the idiot westerners that think the Taliban can be changed , Svend's career is over and Layton can't seem to push his ban on Trans-fats while Libby keeps ramming the food down her throat and nneds the House doors greased to fit into Q.P. , Siksay is the biggest fool and Jack will just blame the beheading on the taliban being victims of child abuse and not understanding the true Islam.

If those 3 Amigo's won't stand behind our troops, at least they
can stand infront of them to slow down the bullets and show the taliban how quickly the NDP is willing to be murdered in their false paradise of Diplomacy.

An Impossible Situation

The big buzz around parliament hill is the Afghan prisoners and the allegations of torture and abuse after being handed over to the Afghan officials. The NDP in particular have been tossing around owrds like war criminals and war crimes in the general direction of the government and especially against our troops. The Liberals are marginally more intelligent in their attacks but no less immoral.

We know very well that the NDP have an absolute hate-on for anybody in uniform especially our valiant troops, who are absolutely and without question NOT war criminals! And I am very very not surprised to hear them take the word of their friends in the Taliban at face value. After all the NDP has been unwavering in their support for the Taliban.

The Liberals are outright liars in several points in this issue;

The liberal defense minister was the one who signed the prisoner transfer agreement yet Ugal Dusange (spelling but I dont care) grilled the conservative defense minister O'Connor about who signed the agreement and when.

The Liberals are also taking the word of the Taliban at face value, or at least are saying that it isnt important who is making the allegations because no matter what, its all the conservatives fault. Even though the prisoner transfer agreement was signed by the liberals.

Unfortunately no matter whose mess it is, the consevative government have been handed the bag and it is up to them to clean up the legal mess, lies or no lies. Canada is culpable for anything that is happens or is alleged to have happened to our prisoners by international law, law that the taliban do not respect.

I believe that it is time for a little bit of perspective.

Canadian forces meet with the village elders and discuss what the elders would like to happen to their village, while the taliban blow in and kill a few people while they tell the elders what the taliban want to happen.

Canadian reconstruction forces build schools and make it possible for female students to go to them, while the taliban burn the schools and hang the teacher from a tree out front for teaching the female students.

Canadian soldiers hand out candy to kids, while the taliban sneak up with explosive underwear on to blow up the kids.

The taliban behead and torture all of their prisoners and videotape it for Al Jazeera, while the Canadian forces will even defend the taliban prisoners from execution by Afghan armed forces.

Is that enough perspective? Or do you need to watch the following video to finally understand the kind of scum we are up against?

A Tip for the Environmentalist Movement

I was watching David Suzuki again on the TV, waving his arms about on the Mike Duffy show, and generally making an arrogant ass of himself. His attitude has really brought home a thought that I have been having for the last few months about the environmental movement.

Basically the way I figure it, the best way to make a person do something is not to threaten, insult, or rant at him or her, especially if the person is a Canadian. We are a basically obedient people, if you try and convince us of something using proper manners.

Here is a fine example of minority politics.

We have the liberal and NDP opposition cherry picking sentences out of the press releases from Stephen Harper and Gordon O'Connor in an attempt to obfuscate the governments position on the Afghanistan mission.

"First the defence minister said Canada will be there until the progress is irreversible. Then he said we may withdraw by 2010 -- but only if certain conditions are met. Now we learn the Conservative cabinet hasn't even discussed the issue of withdrawal and won't do so until next year," Ignatieff, who was standing in for party leader Stephane Dion, said during question period on Monday.

Allow me to translate from "opposition" to english...

Essentially Ignatieff is demanding to know why the conservative position on when to withdraw troops has not changed, while he tries to insinuate that the position has changed.

Maybe I should explain that so that a liberal can understand.

1. O'Connor said that the troops would not be removed until the process of Afghanistans recovery is irreversible.

2. He later says that by 2010, if the recovery is irreversible, the troops will be removed.

3. Then Mr O'Connor says that there haven't been any discussions of removal of trooops this year. (This is most likely because Canada is signed in by parliamentary vote to remain in Afghanistan until 2009, probably it will be silly to discuss removing troops 2 years ahead of actually removing them especially since you wont know what Afghanistan will be like in two years.)

Nowhere on the three points that Ignatieff brought up is there a contradiction or a shift in government policy. Even though Ignatieff has put a lot of effort into making it SOUND like there is.

This is a fine example of an opposition party playing politics with an important issue and attempting to misdirect the public.

And yet Ol' Crooked Neck, the NDP leader, is showing his usual genius for outright lying to the public. Today on Politics, he persisted in insinuating (outright saying) that the Afghanistan mission is an American mission, ignoring the fact that it is a NATO mission.

Typical lying, scummy politics from Layton but I am a bit surprised that the Liberals would stoop that low to actively work against the public interest by trying to undermine the government with outright lies and insinuations.

Perhaps next election those most pernicious of the liars in the opposition will be gently reminded that they work FOR the people when the voting public does NOT mark an "X" beside their names.

Just a quick question for the Bloc Quebecois.

Recently I've been seeing a lot of naked greed and real attitude of both entitlement and outright blackmail ob the part of the Bloc regarding the C-17 purchase.

MP after Bloc MP stood up in the House and DEMANDED their 60% of the contract because in their words "Its only right and only fair".

Thankfully, Quebec has only received 30% of the contracts.

I suspect that the squealing over their "rightful share" of the slops will be both deafening and offensive to the rest of the country.

This of course is the way that the Bloc has always acted, whining and demanding more than their share and whenever that doesn't work, resorting to blackmail by bringing up sovereignty.

My question is, and I hope that their is somebody that is involved with the Bloc, or lives in Quebec, will be able to answer, how many of the Quebec voters who vote Bloc do so because they actually support separation and how many of those voters are those who would make a weasel vote for a party that is sure to bring in extra pork barrel spending?

My hands have finally gotten so bad that I can no longer type without extreme effort. So I'm closing down this blog and sayin adios.

The demonizing of the Conservative government has really set my teeth on edge, and when you combine the enthusiastic media bias with the high road strategy of not fighting back the CPC has adopted you only hear one side of the story.

A few somewhat random thoughts,

I am officialy at war with Telus. I switched to Vonage three weeks ago, because it saves me $35 a month. When we switched, my wife called Telus and set up a redirect which should have told anyone who called my old number what my new one is. Telus said "No problem". Then on the weekend my wife calls her grandparents, who tell her that her aunt is dead and they kept trying to call but our number was down. My wifes Aunt was in hospital for two weeks, and thanks to Telus's bumbling, my wife never got to say goodbye. SO, all you Telus customers out there, if you have cable internet or other hispeed 'net, check out www.vonage.ca!

On CPAC yesterday, I watched some of the debate on the Street Racing bill. The government has the right idea when they decided stiffen penalties on the crime, but the NDP MP who was speaking thinks that banning performance modifications will solve the issue. Hate to tell him, but not only do some performance mods improve safety (suspension and braking upgrades) and emmissions (high flow exhaust and intakes improve milage as well as power), but jackass kids will race any car they can get ahold of. I should know, I played car tag with my '81 Olds Omega 4-door every night from age 17-19. A large sedan with a 70hp 4-banger didnt stop me from 90kmph runs down mainstreet at 4am.

At the same time my daughters cat got 5 rabbit-hide mice as a "we love kitty" present, my sons Cocker Spaniel got a taste for rabbit-hide mice. Anytime now the results will apear on my lawn, sometimes its good to be a gimp...

I have an aweful twitch in my right wrist, making it impossible to game last night with my buddies. Sometimes it REALLY sucks to be a gimp.

About the media and climate change...

Its really too bad that the media in general tends to send mixed and misleading messages whenever they cover Climate change. I grant that the science is very complicated, and the scientific community is still debating the details, but the basic premise is very very simple.

CO2, carbon dioxide, is the offending pollutant. A colorless, odorless gas, emitted whenever oil and gas are burned. Thats what scientists believe we have to slow down on producing. I don't know how CO2 causes climate change, I'm not a scientist.

And neither does the media, or the environmentalists. The media are more interested in sexy images and entertainment value than the truth, and the environmentalists are too busy frothing at the mouth to be bothered with the facts. Between the two, mixed messages are burying every chance of an intelligent discussion.

Some examples of mixed messages are mentioning smog in almost every CC report, or CBC news showing video of an oil slick during todays CC story. CO2 has absolutely nothing to do with smog or a bloody oil slick! A favorite tactic is to use misleading images, pictures of smog, smoky tailpipes, cooling towers (these are the shorter, fat stacks that the media often films for CC stories. They have nothing to do with emissions, their purpose is to reclaim boiler water from used steam for re-use or to cool it so it wont damage the sewers), steam from natural gas exhaust stacks shot on a cold day. (Natural gas exhaust has a large percentage of water vapor, which shows up as steam on a cold day)

This really has got to stop. Its impossible to have an intelligent debate about climate change when theres so much disinformation flying around. I'd expect a serious effort by the media to make an issue easier to understand, and environmentalists are harming their own cause when they treat the public like dupes.

I saw a story on CBC.ca about how BC and Alberta's population is larger than Quebec's for the first time in history. It goes on to say that a total of 64 members of Parliament are chosen from B.C.and Alberta, compared to Quebec's 75 seats. This piqued my interest, so I went to Elections Canada's website and had a look around.

Quebec rural ridings;

Abitibi--Baie-James--Nunavik--Eeyou (Quebec) has a population of 80,052 with 56,615 registered voters

Manicouagan (Quebec) has a population of 84,872 with 64,537 registered voters and 186 polling divisions.

Chicoutimi--Le Fjord (Quebec) has a population of 98,739 with 78,073 registered voters and 199 polling divisions

Montmorency--Charlevoix--Haute-Côte-Nord (Quebec) has a population of 89,257 with 74,190 registered voters and 203 polling divisions

Portneuf--Jacques-Cartier (Quebec) has a population of 87,141 with 73,483 registered voters and 172 polling divisions.

This got me really thinking, is the practice of smaller riding populations for Eastern provinces more widespread? Do western provinces have a trend towards higher populations in their ridings?

Oh yes, they honestly do. BC has many high population ridings, while Ontario has quite a few very low population ridings.

The west deserves more seats in parliament, we're getting screwed over here.

What a strange way to put it... Read the last sentence on the quoted text from a CTV article on two Womans groups getting funding. Theres something fishy going on.

Dewar said it will receive $290,000 for a year's worth of funding, rather than $350,000 for 18 months as it did last year.

That sounds like they're getting shafted, doesn't it? At least until you do the math.

$290,000 for 12 months is (290,000 / 12) $24166.66 per month.

$350,000 for 18 months is (350,000 / 18) $19444.44 per month.

The funding levels went up. But why did the journalist write the sentence in such a confusing way? Look two sentences above the bolded text.

And that my friend is a classic example of the fiction writers tool, foreshadowing. Foreshadowing is used to get the reader into the right mindset for the next event to be more emotionally effective. Creaking floor boards before the slasher attacks, eyes like limpid pools before the love scene, etcetera, etcetera.

In this biased piece the “author” is setting up the reader to believe the worst out of a purposely ambiguous sentence.

Not very subtle if this gimpy old fart can figure it out.

An Analysis of insanity.

This paragraph is what has raised alot of hackles this week. Not for what it says, but for what it means.

What many outsiders don't realize is how alienating the decades-long linguistic struggle has been in the once-cosmopolitan city. It hasn't just taken a toll on long-time anglophones, it's affected immigrants, too. To be sure, the shootings in all three cases were carried out by mentally disturbed individuals. But what is also true is that in all three cases, the perpetrator was not pure laine, the argot for a “pure” francophone. Elsewhere, to talk of racial “purity” is repugnant. Not in Quebec.

From the putrescent Globe and Mail article about the Dawson shooting. Apparently the Globe, along with the rest of the Left, believe that personal responsibility does not exist.

The hack who authored this pap believes that Quebec's language laws are what drove the poor dear victim to walk into a school and open fire on the students.

What utter and complete idiocy!

Fact is that some people are bat-shit crazy. Evil happens. The trick is to detect it before somebody gets killed.

No matter what, the responsibility lies with the shooter. That is a fact of life, you do something of your own free will, whatever you did is your fault. If you cannot accept this fact, someone who raised you buggered up.

The Left, with their nanny-state laws, are trying their best to remove personal responsibility from the populace. Apparently, the citizenry is unable to shoulder the burden.

A very very good example is the Long Gun Registry. At the heart of the law is the idea that the average Joe-Redneck will become a raving homicidal maniac the moment he picks up his double barreled shotgun, or at least he'll let the neighbor kid play with it like a rattle. Therefore, as he isn't worthy of trust, Joe has to register his antique scattergun so the police can keep an eye on him.

Conservative ideas on the gun control issue differ greatly. Their idea of registering the gun owner, requiring a background check and providing education on safe gun ownership puts the responsibility where it belongs. Squarely on the shoulders of the gun owner. The government knows he's been a good citizen, he's been given the education on safe gun ownership, and if Joe buggers it up its his responsibility and he's gonna get nailed.

Last election we saw the naked face of the Lefts contempt for personal responsibility when a Liberal spokesman said that Canadian parents would spend the Conservative child-care money on beer and popcorn.

I don't know about you, but that sticks in my craw.

He referred obliquely to reports that the killer played a violent computer game and posted angry messages of a dark web site.

As soon as the cordite smell clears and the live coverage ends, the Media go looking for their favorite scapegoat. A quick and easy target that they can place the blame for an evil person's actions, because it just isn't sensational enough to blame the shooter.

Why yes, I'm talking about video games. The first target of the hack journalist.

Never mind personal responsibility, animated pixels programmed him to killkillkill!

Forget about the fact that virtually every 20-something has played games, or plays games regularly. The media wants you to believe that games can turn any person into a homicidal maniac, never mind the fact that violent youth crime rates have been steadily falling for 20 years.

Ignore the the voluntary ratings given to games are far more stringent than for any other type of entertainment. (ESRB will rate a game T for teen for showing tobacco use) According to the Media parental responsibility does not exist.

The fact remains, Video Games are a quick and easy target while the concept that evil and crazy people remains a hard sell.

Now, if you don't mind I'm really angry right now so I'm going to go play a game and work off my frustration!

Another CBC news opinion piece by one of our soldiers in Afghanistan. Taliban Jack should read this before he beaks off about the Afghanistan mission being "terrorist-like".

Despite the increase in insurgent activities since early 2006, Afghanistan is still moving forward on the road of democracy and reconstruction. Schools, hospitals, clinics and businesses remain open despite suicide bombings, fire bombings, and rocket attacks. Thousands of Afghanis have been killed in attempts by the Taliban to bring fear to the population, like they did when they were in power. Unfortunately the Taliban have failed to realize that the people of Afghanistan have spoken and voted for democracy and freedom, and the more the Taliban try to terrorize, the more the people will fight back and the more they will support the efforts of the fledgling government and the coalition.

Kinda hard to argue against the will of the people we are there to protect.

When the next election comes along, Canada MUST vote Conservative!

Look at the opposition parties.

We have the Librals, who have all the positions about all the issues ALL AT ONCE! None of thier leadership candidates have any credibility from the way they've let thier strategists run thier campaigns. Before anyone should vote for them, the voter should probably waitfor a principaled sstand on an issue.

Then there's Taliban Jack, and his NDP anti-Canadian values party. Their entire strategy seems to revolve around courting the votes of the terrorists and cowards. The very idea of ol' crooked neck saying that he supports our troops as he stands as the leader a party who has called the mission in Afghanistan terrorist-like and our soldiers and Canada even warmongers. This should make any true Canadian sick in the guts.

Personally, I wonder whether the NDP are moving as per their principles, or are they trying to forment an anti-war sentiment and then take advantage of it. Either way, their recent posturing must preclude anybody with an ounce of decency or patriotism voting for them.

Thats where we as the informed come in. We have to talk to our families, our friends and our co-workers. We have to convince them of the truth, to defuse the Libral and NDP propaganda. A pleasant debate with a friend is alot more effective in changing a persons mind than a sound byte on the evening news.

Heres a snippet;

The battle finally subsided after 34 hours of fighting. We pulled into a wheat field and set up a small medical station to deal with minor ailments. The companies rolled through our resupply point before they headed off to a staging area to replenish supplies and eat. We saw about 20 patients, most of them just dehydrated or with minor shrapnel wounds requiring a bandage — and a straw. When I asked Creelman what the straw was for, he laughed.

"Suck it up and carry on."

"You can smell the defeat"

NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer said Wednesday that the Taliban are mistaken if they believe they can win the south.

"They are wrong. Because they cannot win, they will not win," the NATO chief said. "That is why we are engaged in combat as well at this very moment."

Another NATO commander on the ground said coalition troops can sense the downfall of the Taliban.

"You [can] smell defeat when you've been in the army for a bit and we're beginning to whiff it there," said Lt.-Gen. David Richards.

He praised the roughly 2,300 Canadians soldiers stationed in southern Afghanistan.

"You would be proud of the way your Canadian soldiers have conducted themselves in absolutely the highest traditions of your armed force," said Richards.

Layton and Dosanjh are at it again...

Canada should withdraw its troops from the current mission in southern Afghanistan and invite Taliban fighters to peace talks, NDP Leader Jack Layton said yesterday.

Liberal defence critic Ujjal Dosanjh also rejected the NDP call to withdraw troops, but agreed that talks with the Taliban could be helpful.

A couple of things have happened in the last couple of days that have me quite pleased with the government.

This morning Stephen Harper announced his plan to begin arming our border guards. This is an issue that the old government either dodged or made light of for years and years. To me it was a non-issue because our border guards are there to detect illegal goods before they get across the border. Because the only people who will transport illegal goods are criminals, one would expect them to not be very nice people, perhaps even dangerous people. Another kind of dangerous criminal would be the fugitive on the run who is trying to cross into Canada that we keep hearing about in the news because these unarmed border guards are powerless to stop an armed invader.

Therefore you will have to count me and many other honest citizens as being among those who will be relieved to see a side arm hanging off the belt of our border guards.

And yesterday, I was pleased to hear the government announcing that they are going to keep their promise to hire more RCMP officers, 600 more to be exact. Not surprised, but pleased.

The RCMP are known world-wide as a top flight police organization, and its always nice to see more of the men and women with the yellow stripe down their legs. (Its a weird image, but for some reason, that stripe to me means safety and security.)

Both of these announcements are aimed, and very well aimed at those of us who believe in having a more safe and secure Canada.

But that's my opinion...

Like Jack Layton showed today, when he contradicted General Hilliers statement earlier this year that Canada cannot spare troops for operations other than Afghanistan. Old crooked neck Jack accused the government of lying about Canadas military capabilities and is trying to say that we should send troops to Lebanon after arguing against having troops out in the Middle East at all.

It seems to me that anybody who works as hard as the NDP does against the military's use abroad or even its very existence, should forfeit the right to beak off about sending our men and women in uniform into harms way.

More Left-wing MPs are weighing in thier support for Hezbollahs removal from Canada's terrorist organisations list. One has to wonder just how retarded they think Canadian voters are.

The Lebanese-based militant group Hezbollah should be removed from Canada's list of banned terrorist organizations, two Canadian MPs say.

Boris Wrzesnewskyj and Peggy Nash made the comments Sunday during a fact-finding mission to southern Lebanon as Israeli troops continue to withdraw from the region following 34 days of conflict.

Wrzesnewskyj, a Liberal MP from Toronto, says the visit has shown him how integrated Hezbollah is into Lebanese society. In the interest of peace, he said Canada should reconsider its 2002 decision to place the group on its list of banned terrorist groups.

"Hezbollah has a political wing, they have members of parliament, two [cabinet] ministers," said Wrzesnewskyj

I see no mention of parental responsability.

As a parent I believe that its my sacred responsability to teach my kids the value of right and wrong. Criminals are created through parental neglect in most cases, and I believe that the parents of youth criminals should be dragged before a judge.

And yes, I practice what I preach. My kids, ages seven and five, got into some used motor oil and dumped it into my neighbor's rain barrel. He came around asking who did it and they blamed another kid, but the wife and I checked their laundry and found oily clothing. The whole family went over and apologised, and the kids punishment (a week to their rooms, and a month inside with daily speeches on honesty and respect for other peoples property) was explained and an offer was made for reperations.

An overwhelming number of Canadians support Prime Minister Stephen Harper's assertion that Israel's attacks on Lebanon are justified because Israel has a right to self defence and say Iran and Syria are wrong to have armed Hezbollah, according to a new poll to be released today.
The poll, which was conducted by public opinion researcher COMPAS Inc., will appear today in the news magazine Western Standard. The poll states that 82 per cent of Canadians asked believe that Israel has a right to self defence.

God bless Angela Reid. Her son was killed in action by a Taliban roadside bomb, an awful end to a brave mans life. But Angela is no Sheehan, She's infinately better than that.

"Their hearts have been deadened, their minds and thoughts twisted, their vision clouded and their hearing deafened," Angela Reid told about 300 mourners at the funeral for her son, Cpl. Christopher Reid, in Truro, N.S.

She then urged the people of Afghanistan to work with the NATO-led coalition forces, prompting a standing ovation from the gathering.

"I make this simple request to the Afghan people: Reach out and grab on to the help we offer to you in good faith. Together, and only together, can we succeed," she said.

"To one and all, I have this request. Please support our troops, they need you standing behind them."

Cpl. Reid, 34, a member of the Edmonton-based 1st Battalion of the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, was killed by a roadside bomb near Kandahar on Aug. 3, weeks before he was scheduled to return home.

I fail to see the problem, Canadian operational tactics are bog-standard. Every infantry force worldwide uses the same tactics. What the clips do show however is dedicated and cool-headed soldiers couragiously returning fire with careful and deliberate shots. No cowboy bullshit anywhere, these soldiers are textbook professionals.

You believe journalism requires a sort of elegant moral relativism, that telling "both sides of the story" is a necessary prerequisite to "objective" journalism. You don't believe that there can be an objective right or wrong; if you were reporting World War II today, you'd feel obligated to speak to front-line Japanese and Nazi soldiers and discuss the Allies' disproportionate response to the attack on Pearl Harbor and the invasion of Poland.

Superior Court Justice David Marshall says the talks must be suspended until the barricades come down at the Caledonia, Ont., housing development. A judge is ordering an end to negotiations between the province and aboriginal protesters over a contentious tract of land until the occupiers move off the property. Fly over Alberta and signs of marauding progress abound. Oilsands development eats into the landscape in the north around Fort McMurray. Construction cranes appear over skylines in Calgary and Edmonton like towering steel weather vanes spun by the gale-force winds of sudden wealth.

Oh NO! Progress! The fiends. Despite the connotations of doom, construction is GOOD. Alberta isn't just an oil province, we're diversifying into hitech and manufacturing. Because of our business friendly climate, many large corps either have or want to move their head offices here.

Drive the deteriorating serpentine two-lane corridor of Highway 63 to Fort McMurray and your car narrowly misses oncoming semi-trailers, trucks and wide-loads laden with oilfield storage tanks.

It's known as a death highway with scores of accidents and fatalities. Two oilfield workers died recently when a logging truck spilled its load, piercing their oncoming minivan with wood.

Yes that hiways in need of repair, but the government would rather twin it and do it right. That's in the planning stage, and unmentioned in this slam-piece.

Workers are flooding in. During the first quarter of 2006, there were 25,900 more souls in Alberta, the highest first-quarter increase ever for the province.

The CBCnews story thats got me so mad.

Two roadside bombs hit a Canadian military convoy just west of Kandahar on Friday, a day after the deaths of four soldiers raised questions about Canada's role in Afghanistan.

One of the bombs detonated between two vehicles, but there was no major damage and the convoy continued to drive through the danger zone.

One civilian vehicle was destroyed in the first explosion but it was unclear whether any civilians were injured.

The deaths prompted Liberal defence critic Ujjal Dosanjh to accuse Prime Minister Stephen Harper of distorting and changing the scope of the mission in Afghanistan.

"I think Canadians believed that the focus of this mission is different than what it appears to be today — today it appears to be solely combat," Dosanjh said Thursday.

Dosanjh is proving once again that his party is a pack of opportunistic lowlifes who wouldn't know a moral if it bit them on the ass!

Even though a Federal District Court judge trashed Minnesota's video game law in a sharply-worded ruling yesterday, one of the sponsors of the legislation is ready to try again.

As reported by the St. Paul Pioneer-Press, State Sen. Sandy Pappas (D, seen at left) may propose new video game legislation in next year's session.

"The federal court said we don't have a right to protect our children, but we protect our children from other things. We don't let them smoke or buy liquor. You score points (in video games) for how many women you rape, how many cops you kill. How could that not affect them psychologically?"

This time, THROW AWAY THE KEY!!!

Serial child rapist and kidnapper Witmore is a poster child for whats wrong with our justice system. He's been comvicted multiple times for doing what a human being would never do and recieved light sentances and parolled even though he remains unrepentant. And every time he gets out, another little boy gets molested.

I don't know about you, but I find this unacceptable. The rights of children to remain safe and innocent MUST be protected by the courts, even if that means that the diddlers never see the light of day again. Iether that or look the other way when an angry father snipes a pedophile with a hipower rifle. (Which is guarenteed if any children in my family get molested)

Of course, our Conservative MPs are already moving on this;

Art Hangar, a Conservative MP from Calgary and a former police officer, also called for tougher prison terms for those convicted of sex offences involving children.

"There's only one way to keep a pedophile away from our children and that's to lock them up for longer periods of time and if in fact they're really serious abusers, put them away for life," he said

In June, Hangar introduced a private members' bill calling for tougher sentences.

Federal Justice Minister Vic Toews has said he is examining ways to expand the use of the dangerous offender designation.
Toews said he's consulting with his provincial counterparts about how to make it easier for them to pursue the dangerous offender label. Being designated a dangerous offender allows judges to impose indeterminate sentences on criminals.

What an excellent afternoon!

Darcey from DustMyBroom showed up at my place and we hung out for a bit and went for a drive.

In person he's a really nice down to earth fellow, way the hell smarter than I am and I think we got along great. We had a very entertaining conversation during the drive about darn near everything, but the main theme that seemed to emerge is how much we love being in Alberta.

On our wayback we hit a really nice thunderstorm, with almost textbook definition. A nice strong downdraft, followed by a clear dryline (The wall of cloud at the leading edge) then a band of rain, a band of pea sized hail, and a band of heavy rain with some lightning. Darceys van has a thermometer built in, so we were able to watch the temperature plummet from 21C to 7C as we drove through the storm.

All in all a great day!
